Mr. Cha Ger Moua

MSGT. Cha Ger Moua
SGU Veteran
St. Paul, MN
File No.: 13/50
March 2024

Born in 1960, Cha Ger Moua was the youngest child in his family. Like many Hmong families, he lost a couple of his brothers to the war. In 1972, he joined the SGU forces as a boy soldier to seek revenge for their deaths. In 1975, democracy in Laos had toppled, and the communists took over. Cha Ger and his family went into hiding in the jungle. They were concerned about their safety as they remained in Laos. In May 1980, Cha Ger, his family, and 361 other Hmong crossed the Mekong River into Thailand. But for refugees, life in Thailand was a dead end. Going to America presented the best choice, and they arrived first in Merced, California. A lack of employment opportunities led him and his family to relocate to Minnesota in 1997. ∆
